Segway Frequently Asked Questions

Ninebot by Segway miniPRO

Does the miniPRO comply with the new Land Transport Authority (LTA) regulation on Personal Mobility Devices (PMD) for usage on footpaths?

Yes, the miniPRO meets all the LTA recommended guidelines and is safe to use on footpath. The miniPRO is also the World’s FIRST product that is certified under the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 2272 Safety Standard. As the first UL-Certified self balancing scooter, the miniPRO is setting new standards for personal transporters, hoverboards and electric scooters.

What is UL2272?

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), uncertified hoverboard products have resulted in more than 60 fires and thousands of injuries.  Hoverboards have begun to earn a tragic reputation for failing to measure up to fire and electrical safety standards. Amazon has stopped selling hoverboards and issued refunds to their customers who purchased a hoverboard from them. UL supports retailers and manufacturers by offering electrical and fire-safety testing and certification under UL 2272, Electrical Systems for Self-Balancing Scooters. This standard evaluates the safety of the electrical drive train system and battery and charger system combinations, but does NOT evaluate for performance, reliability, or rider safety.

All products not conforming to the new standards will be considered by the U.S. government to be an imminent hazard and subject to confiscations and forced recalls. Those selling them are subject to civil and even criminal prosecution in the U.S.

How fast can the miniPRO go?

The miniPRO can travel at speeds of up to 11.2 mph
